Poll

Hello everyone!

As some of you might have noticed, there are currently six wikis about “Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.” Three of them either agreed to merge and/or are inactive since 48–100+ hours. This means we currently have three relatively healthy and active wikis about “Ancestors”.

Two wikis are on Fandom and each have been founded by a volunteer who is still maintaining their creation, and they also have at least one relatively active and loyal additional editor.

The third wiki is on Gamepedia (property of Fandom since December) and has been created in 2017 by a Staff Member, and had the same kind of activity burst that Fandom’s wikis got. Active members count is similar too.

Now… If we want to share a “one-stop shop” for knowledge and sharing about “Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey,” we might have to decide which wiki will receive the most attention. Some people think wiki should be left to a peaceful death as editors and readers organically and slowly migrate toward one or two wikis, but I personally prefer to organize the organic so things evolve a little bit faster. 😋 (Oh… That makes me think of a game…)

Before the decision-making, I want to share some info:

  • Staff Members can help us to migrate data from one wiki to another while retaining history and user contributions
  • Data show that both Fandom’s wikis share a similar level of popularity and activity. I think the least popular one suffers from its high count of “orphaned pages” (pages that are not linked anywhere on the wiki), so I would personally call it a tie. Gamepedia’s wiki received a lot more visits, but being curated by paid Staff Members since 2017 definitely explains a lot about that.
  • Full Disclaimer: I come from the Gamepedia’s wiki. 😑
  • Finally: Editors said to me that Gamepedia is blocked by some school-issued laptops and tablets because it has the word “game” in its URL or something. Fandom isn’t blocked.
  • If you have 15 minutes to lose, look at that video of me browsing through the three wikis 🤦‍♀️: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AP4APaFgddc

Without further ado, let me share with you this *tool* that might help us to make a decision (and legitimate the whole process) AND URL to see the two other wikis with your own eyes:
